Europa was envisioned as something like a Lava Lamp. Warmer ice pushes to the surface dragging salt, other minerals and possibly bodies of creatures from the deep. In the more active regions of Europa, there is constant movement of water and ice. Water fills cavities in the ice and forms subterranean lakes when domes rise over the regions referred to as chaos. The geysers are the dramatic result of this dynamic.
